Family sues in Ohio teen’s treatment center death

CLEVELAND (AP) — The family of a 17-year-old girl who died at a church-run treatment center says reckless and negligent behavior by center employees caused her death.

The family of Faith Finley on Tuesday sued Catholic Charities Services Corp. of Cleveland and three former employees of Parmadale Family Services treatment center.

The girl died Dec. 13 while being restrained by three staff members who have since been fired.

Cuyahoga County Coroner Frank Miller ruled the girl’s death a homicide, saying she choked on vomit and suffocated.

The lawsuit seeks at least $50,000 in compensatory and punitive damages. A message was left with Catholic Charities seeking comment.

Officials have recommended the state ban the type of face-down restraint alleged in the girl’s death.
