Trumbull sanitary engineer’s controller dies

NILES — Robert DeChristofaro Jr., 53, of Niles, controller for the Trumbull County Sanitary Engineer’s Office in Vienna and brother of Trumbull County Engineer David DeChristofaro, died unexpectedly Monday evening.

He was playing basketball at the Mayor Ralph Infante Wellness Center in Waddell Park when he collapsed and was taken away in an ambulance, said Rex Fee, executive director of the sanitary engineer’s office.

“He put everything he had into his job, and he will be sorely missed,” Fee said. “It’s a tough day here.”

As controller since Jan. 10, 2005, DeChristofaro was responsible for the billing at the agency, which handles water and sewer service in most areas of the county outside of the cities.
