St. Rose Festival begins Thursday


Nightly music, rides and foods will be part of the annual church festival.

GIRARD —The Girard St. Rose Church annual Summer Festival will be Thursday through Sunday on the church grounds, 48 E. Main Street.

Daily events will include music, bingo, wheel games and rides and booths for children’s games.

A variety of homemade food cooked by parishioners will be featured, along with several raffles, including four $500 IGA Shopping spree winners (one drawn each night). Other raffle prizes will include: a Nintendo “Wii FIT,” a Kelly Pavlik autographed book, and cash of $5,000, $1,000 and $500.

Winners of the raffles will be drawn at 11 p.m. Sunday at the Festival. Winners need not be present.

The festival will run from 6 to11 p.m. Thursday and Friday, from 5 to 11 p.m. Saturday and from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday.

Festival entertainment includes:

UThursday — from 6 to 8 p.m., WBBG 106.1; and 7 to 11 p.m., The Great Pretenders.

UFriday — The House Band, 7 to 11 p.m., main entertainment tent.

USaturday —“The Crossroads,” 7 to 11 p.m. in the main entertainment tent.

USunday —The Girard Dixieland Band” from 4 to 6 p.m.; and Rudy and the Professionals, 7 to 11 p.m.

Amusement rides, children’s games and additional food booths will be presented each day by Sam’s Amusements of Canton.

Fireworks will be at 11 p.m. Sunday.

Food for sale and made by parishioners will include: cavatelli, sausage and peppers, steak hoagies, chicken strips, hot dogs, cabbage and noodles, pizza, French fries, Italian cheese puffs, fried dough, cakes, pies, cookies, lemon/orange shakes, pop, coffee and beer.
