STRUTHERS — Down to its final out in the bottom of the seventh inning, Rondinelli Tuxedo scored three runs to tie the game, and then scored the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, defeating the Lake Erie Bulldogs 5-4 for the championship of the 47th Connie Mack state baseball tournament on Monday at Cene Park.

Zack Stein drove home both the game-tying and winning runs as part of a three-hit, three RBI performance.

Kyle Vaclav drove home a pair of runs in the seventh.

Nathan Junk went the first 7 2/3 innings with Zack McGhee tossing 1 1/3 innings of one-hit relief for the win.

Greg Greve had three hits for the Bulldogs. Jack McLinden went the first five innings on the mound, allowing just one run on one hit, with nine strikeouts. He and Johnny Fasola also had two hits each.

Rondinelli is the first Youngstown team to win the state title since the Astro Falcons in 2003.

Rondinelli Tuxedo 6, Ohio Hurricanes 0

Rondinelli advanced to the championship game with a shutout in the semifinals.

D.J. Simoncic allowed just five hits and walked just one in going the distance for the win. He had two strikeouts.

Jason Bagoly, Jaymee Shepard, Drew Fitzpatrick, and Kyle Vaclav had two hits each with Fitzpatrick driving home a pair of runs. Rondinelli took advantage of six errors by the Hurricanes to score three unearned runs.

Little League softball

IRONTON — The Poland 11-12 all-stars defeated East Hamilton, 16-0, in the stat tournament on Monday.

Chloe Bush, Claire Testa and Arlia Duarte combined on a no-hitter.

Jenna Schettler, Bridget Bobby, and Dani Rutana led the Poland offense, each going 2 for 3. Brielle Nocera and Kathryn Wilson each added one hit.

Poland is scheduled to play Avon Lake today at 11 a.m.

Babe Ruth baseball

Christopher Maze, Ian Simmons, and Jake Stauffer combined to limit Newark to one run on two hits as the Youngstown All-Stars defeated Newark, 18-1, at the 14-year-old Ohio Babe Ruth tournament on Sunday.

Maze, Simmons and Stauffer combined on nine strikeouts.

Jacob Froats went 5 for 5 for Youngstown with a 3-run homer and nine RBIs.

Maze had two hits while Dan Ferguson, Michael Raschilla, Sean Coyne and Simmons each had one.

Youngstown (2-0) next plays Zanesville today at 8 p.m.
