Coroner says a 5-year-old Ohio boy shot himself

HAMILTON, Ohio (AP) — A coroner in has ruled that a 5-year-old boy died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound, but officials have not decided if any charges should be filed.

An investigator for the Butler County coroner’s office determined that the shooting Saturday evening was an accident.

Authorities said Zachariah Nesbitt found a handgun in his family’s apartment in Hamilton and shot himself in the chest. The bullet penetrated his lung.

Police believe both the boy’s parents were home when the shooting occurred. Investigators indicate there could be a decision later this week on whether charges should be filed.
