YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for the person responsible for growing marijuana at an East Side vacant home — repeatedly.
Police on Friday afternoon were checking addresses where marijuana had been grown in the past and came upon marijuana plants growing at 2979 Kenyon Ave. Reports say marijuana has been found growing at the home in the past.
Police removed 227 marijuana plants from the ground and an additional 10 plants from inside the house. There were also fertilizer and potting soil at the house.
Reports say police plan to visit the location again and check for marijuana plants.
Mustang club drive
BOARDMAN — The Mahoning Valley Mustang Club invites all Ford Mustang enthusiasts to come to its annual membership drive. This year, it will be on Mustang night at the A&W on U.S. Route 224 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. Friday.
There is a $5 coupon discount on club merchandise for anyone who joins. There will be a DJ, other car vendors, 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle. The monthly meetings are at the Canfield Township building.

Skin-cancer screening
LISBON —The Columbiana County Health Department will have a free skin-cancer screening the afternoon of Aug. 4 at the department, 7360 state Route 45.
Skin cancer is the most common type of cancer. More than 800,000 people develop skin cancer each year. Fortunately, skin cancers are easy to detect, and most can be cured when detected early.
Any Columbiana County resident with a suspicious lesion such as a sore that will not heal, a mole or wart that has changed, a change in color pigmentation of the skin, or any skin abnormality may be seen at this clinic. Appointments are required.

Spraying for mosquitoes
NILES — Spraying for mosquito control for the city is scheduled for after 6 p.m. July 29. In case of rain, the alternative spraying date will be July 30.
All those with respiratory problems should remain indoors with the windows closed. Food should not be prepared or left outside during the spraying period. All pets should be taken indoors.
Annual Rib Smoke Off
LISBON — The third annual Rib Smoke Off, auction and poker run will be from noon to 8 p.m. Aug. 1 at Csonka’s Sports Complex, 6885 state Route 45. All proceeds will benefit people with developmental disabilities in Columbiana County.
Ten area rib vendors vie for the title of Columbiana County’s best ribs. Entertainment will be provided by “The route 45 band” with a special DJ appearance by Columbiana County Commissioner Dan Bing.
Smoke-off and poker-run T-shirts will be available for sale. There will be face painting and other activities for kids.
The poker run is a scenic five- stop route starting and ending at Csonka’s. There will be live and silent auctions.

Fatal car crash in Pa.
CLAY TOWNSHIP, Pa. — Police are investigating an accident that took the life of a 34-year-old Pittsburgh man.
Pennsylvania State Police in Butler County say Jason S. Rich, of Locust Street, Pittsburgh, was killed in a one-vehicle ATV accident at Switchback Raceway on William Flynn Highway at 12:45 a.m. Sunday.
No one else was injured in the accident.
