Man sought for child’s beating

YOUNGSTOWN — Police are looking for the man accused of brutally beating a toddler, and they want help from the public.

Police have a warrant for the arrest of Jerbrail Grhim, 19, of Campbell, charged with felonious assault in the beating of a South Side baby. The baby was listed in critical condition today at Akron Children’s Hospital.

Capt. Kenneth Centorame said anyone with information on Grhim’s whereabouts should call 911 or (330) 746-CLUE to speak to detectives involved in the case.

Centorame said it is important to understand that anyone offering Grhim assistance with food, clothing, shelter or in any other way will be charged with a crime.

The child, of Lucius Avenue, was reportedly assaulted with a wire coat hanger by Grhim, who is not related to the child. The child also was punched several times and held underwater in a bathtub.

A family friend has said the child was born in February 2008, and that Grhim had met the child’s mother two weeks ago.
