Baseball roundup Sunday’s other games

AMERICAN LEAGUE

Blue Jays 3, Red Sox 1

TORONTO — Roy Halladay pitched a six-hitter to win for the first time since June 7 and Rod Barajas drove in three runs, leading the Blue Jays. Halladay (11-3) could be the biggest prize available before the July 31 trade deadline. Blue Jays general manager J.P. Ricciardi said this month he would field offers for the 2003 AL Cy Young Award winner, who is signed through 2010.

Yankees 2, Tigers 1

NEW YORK — Joba Chamberlain won for the first time in almost a month and New York got home runs from Mark Teixeira and Alex Rodriguez in a victory over Detroit that completed a three-game sweep of the AL Central leaders. Chamberlain (5-2) rebounded from two ineffective starts and New York edged punchless Detroit 2-1 for the second consecutive day.

Orioles 10, White Sox 2

CHICAGO — Jeremy Guthrie pitched eight solid innings and Gregg Zaun hit a three-run home run, leading Baltimore over Chicago. Zaun was 3 for 4 with four RBIs as the Orioles improved to 15-29 on the road.

Rays 4, Royals 3

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Gabe Gross drew a bases-loaded walk to force in the tiebreaking run with two outs in the eighth inning, and Tampa Bay rallied against the struggling Kansas City bullpen. The Royals, who have lost six straight and eight of nine, blew a 3-0 lead. It was the third straight game the bullpen failed to hold a lead.

Angels 1, Athletics 0, 10 innings

OAKLAND, Calif. — Bobby Abreu, who broke up rookie Brett Anderson’s bid for a perfect game with a seventh-inning single, homered with one out in the 10th inning to lead Los Angeles over Oakland. Abreu’s two big hits rewarded John Lackey (5-4), who allowed three hits over nine scoreless innings for the AL West-leading Angels — the second time this season he hasn’t allowed a run.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

Phillies 5, Marlins 0

MIAMI — Unbeaten rookie J.A. Happ allowed five hits in seven innings, and the Phillies extended their longest winning streak since 2006 to eight games. Happ (7-0) also singled with two outs to start a three-run rally in the second inning. Jimmy Rollins had three hits by the third and came within a home run of the cycle, and Raul Ibanez doubled home two runs for the Phillies, who have won eight in a row in Miami.

Braves 7, Mets 1

ATLANTA — Yunel Escobar had two of his four RBIs in a five-run fifth inning and the Braves won as the Mets lost yet another player to an injury. Mets starting pitcher Fernando Nieve left the game in the second inning with a strained right quadriceps.

Reds 5, Brewers 3

CINCINNATI — Jonny Gomes hit a tiebreaking, two-run homer in the eighth inning, sending Cincinnati to a victory and a split of the four-game series with Milwaukee. Gomes connected off Seth McClung (3-3), who had a tough time in his two appearances during the series.

Cubs 11, Nationals 3

WASHINGTON — Alfonso Soriano’s two-run homer keyed a seven-run fourth inning and Chicago completed a four-game sweep of Washington. Jake Fox had three hits and a career-high four RBIs. Soriano’s 16th home run, his second in two games after a drought of 120 at-bats, began the biggest inning of the season for the Cubs.

Cardinals 2, Diamondbacks 1

ST. LOUIS — Joel Pineiro hit a two-run double and pitched seven sharp innings, leading St. Louis over Arizona. Pineiro (8-9) gave up one run, struck out three and allowed five hits in getting his third win in five decisions after losing five straight and eight of nine.

Rockies, 6, Padres 1

SAN DIEGO — Jason Marquis threw eight strong innings and drove in two runs to become the majors’ first 12-game winner, leading Colorado over San Diego. The win spoiled the major league debut of San Diego right-hander Mat Latos (0-1).

Dodgers 4, Astros 3

LOS ANGELES — Matt Kemp hit a tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning, Brad Ausmus had a pair of RBI doubles and Los Angeles beat Houston to earn a split of the four-game series. Kemp drove a 3-2 pitch from LaTroy Hawkins (1-4) into the left-field pavilion for his 12th homer. He had three hits and tied a career high by scoring four runs.
