NILES — The Mahoning Valley Scrappers baseball team is having a Pack the Park night Aug. 14 as a benefit for Akron Children’s Hospital Mahoning Valley in Boardman.

The Scrappers will donate $3 to the hospital for every ticket sold with Pack the Park vouchers, which are available at Akron Children’s information desk in Building D on the Beeghly Campus, 6505 Market St., Boardman, or they may be downloaded from the Web site at www.akronchildrens.org/events. The vouchers can be redeemed at the Scrappers box office at Eastwood Field at 111 Eastwood Mall Blvd.

On Aug. 14, the Scrappers will play the Lowell Spinners, a Boston Red Sox affiliate. There will be fireworks after the game. Gates open at 6 p.m., and the game will begin at 7:05.

Grant for Mahoning Twp.

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — Mahoning Township in Lawrence County will receive a $5 million state grant for a water and sewer project, said state Rep. Chris Sainato, D-Lawrence-Beaver.

The township will build a sanitary-sewer system to serve about 565 residential customers and 30 businesses as well as Valley View Downs, a proposed casino-racetrack.

Funding for Mercer Co.

MERCER, Pa. — Five Mercer County projects will get $12,326,522 in funding from the H2O PA grant program, state officials said.

Sharon Sanitary Authority received $9 million for the expansion of the waste-treatment plant and the construction of an interceptor and siphon barrel.

Jefferson Township received $1,688,760 for sewers to replace malfunctioning on-lot systems.

Hermitage Municipal Authority received $1 million to increase the capacity of a regional waste-treatment plant.

Sharpsville received $461,245 to replace a waterline.

Mercer received $176,517 for sewer-system improvements.

Auctioning surplus items

GIRARD — The city is auctioning surplus items through its Web site, www.girardcityauctions.com.

Items include a variety of radio equipment and a 1999 Ford Taurus. Bids may be placed online. Online registration, which is free, is required to place bids. Items are listed as they become available.

MBA information

YOUNGSTOWN — The Williamson College of Business Administration at Youngstown State University will host information sessions on the master of business administration degree from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday and Thursday in Cafaro Suite, Williamson Hall.

The Flexible MBA program allows students to pursue the degree either part time or full time. Classes are offered one night per week and Saturdays. Some MBA courses are offered in eight-week blocks. Students may start in any term.

The MBA program is accredited by Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International.
