best bets on tv

“Moonshot” (8 p.m., History Channel): Where were you on July 20, 1969? If you’re old enough to remember, it’s a safe bet you were parked in front of a TV set watching U.S. astronauts set foot on the lunar surface for the first time. Now, on the 40th anniversary of that historic event, comes a two-hour production that combines dramatization with vintage footage to explore the behind-the-scenes ego clashes and interpersonal drama that led up to the big moment. The fact that it’s all rendered in eye-boggling high-definition makes the experience even better.

“Labor Pains” (8 p.m., ABC family): Can Lindsay Lohan’s acting career be saved? The tabloid queen stars in “Labor Pains,” which skipped theaters and went direct to cable. Not an encouraging sign.

“True Blood” (9 p.m., HBO): Is this the coolest show, or what? It not only contains vampires, but telepaths! Tonight, Sookie makes a connection with a stranger who shares her mental abilities.

“Design Star” (10 p.m., HGTV): Get those fabric swatches and paint brushes ready. The fourth season of “Design Star” begins, and there are lots of masterpieces (and disasters) to render.
