Rondinelli advances with second Mack win


STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo of the Youngstown Class B League scored single runs in the first two innings and held on to defeat Andy’s 9ers Blue, 2-1, in the second round of the 47th Connie Mack baseball state tournament at Cene Park on Friday.

Rondinelli’s Zack McGhee went five plus innings for the win, allowing one run on two hits with seven strikeouts and nine walks.

Drew Fitzpatrick had a pair of hits and went the final two innings for the save while Jason Bagoly had two singles for Rondinelli.

Nate Fiala had two hits for Andy’s who stranded 12 men on base.

Rondinelli will play the Stark County Terriers today. Rondinelli is one of six teams still unbeaten in the tournament.

Astro Falcons 7, Andy’s 9ers 5

The Astro Falcons stayed alive as they knocked out the defending state champion.

Jared Turocy had two hits and pitched the final 11‚Ñ3 innings of one hit scoreless ball for the save, striking out two.

Anthony Mott added two hits for the Astros.

Tyler Begun hit a two-run home run while Craig Szymczak added a pair of hits and two RBIs for Andy’s.

Tyler Royer went five innings for the win, allowing one earned run with five strikeouts.

OTN Performance 9, Brownlee Lookouts 2

Mike Tomko had a triple, a double, and drove home three runs as OTN Performance stayed alive.

Collin Bowser and Jay Rowland had two hits each, with Bowser tossing the first six innings on the mound for the win, allowing two runs (one earned), on six hits with four strikeouts.

Pat O’Boyle had two hits for the Lookouts.

Ohio Hurricanes 7, Dave Sugar Excavating 6

Dave Sugar Excavaing was the first Class B team knocked out of the tournament as a seventh inning rally fell short.

Rob Purdy had three hits and DJ Washington and John Galbraith two hits each for the winners.

Nick Crum, Dan Mioni, and Mike Gatta had two hits each for Dave Sugar with Mioni and Gatta driving home two runs each.

Dave Sugar scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh and had the tying run at third with one out but were unable to tie the contest.

Ohio Yankees 1, 1080 Media 0

Ryan Woods’ bases-loaded sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh inning drove home the only run of the contest.

Nate Debrick had a pair of hits while Taylor Paridon tossed a four hitter with three stikeouts for the win.

Paul Indrihovic was the tough luck loser as he allowed just the one run on five hits with two strikeouts.

1080 Media had the bases loaded with one out in the first inning but were not able to score and left eight men on base in the contest.
