YOUNGSTOWN — “Tamb-ourines to Clara,” written and directed by Dr. Benney J. Pritchett, will be presented at 6 p.m. July 25 at Tabernacle Baptist Church, 707 Arlington St. The Gospel play is based on the life of Clara Ward and the Ward Singers in conjunction with Patricia Pritchett-Lewis of The Crystals, a Motown group of the 1960s. The trustee and van ministry of the church is presenting the event. Tickets are two for $40 or one for $25. Call the church at (330) 747-9624.

Celebration planned

YOUNGSTOWN — The Women of Victory Celebration is planned at 10:45 a.m. July 26 at Union Baptist Church, 528 Lincoln Ave., where Michael H. Harrison Sr. is pastor.

Shirley Walker Powell of Greater New Hope Missionary Baptist Church in Cincinnati will be guest speaker.

Hymn sing-along

GIRARD — The community is invited to a Gospel hymn sing-along July 25 at New Life Christian Fellowship, 2088 Tibbetts-Wick Road.

Fellowship will begin at 6:30 p.m. with the music at 7.

Diaconate ordinations

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry will ordain four men to the diaconate during a service at 10:30 a.m. today in St. Columba Cathedral, 154 W. Wood St.

The deacons will continue their studies in preparation for ordination to the priesthood.

Christopher Cicero completed his summer assignment at St. Charles Church in Boardman. He will return to seminary studies at Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. His home parish is St. James Church in Warren.

Brian Cline completed his summer assignment at St. Pius X Church in Warren, and will return to St. Vincent Seminary in Latrobe, Pa. His home parish is St. Jude Church in Columbiana.

Michael Marcelli completed his summer assignment at St. Paul the Apostle Church in New Middletown and will return to St. Vincent Seminary. His home parish is Queen of the Holy Rosary Church in Vienna.

John Sheridan completed his summer assignment at St. James Church in Warren. He will return to seminary studies at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. His home parish is St. Charles.

Appreciation program

YOUNGSTOWN — Phillips Chapel Christian Methodist Episcopal, 718 Albert St., will have an appreciation program for the pastor, Amariah McIn-tosh, after the service July 26.

Pastoral anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — Holy Trinity Missionary Baptist Church, 505 Parkcliffe Ave., will host a celebration to honor the 12 years of pastoral service of the Rev. Lewis W. Macklin II.

The event will be at 3 p.m. Sunday.

The Rev. Amariah McIntosh and the congregation of the Phillips Chapel Chritian Methodist Episcopal Church will be among the special guests.

The Rev. Mr. McIntosh is the incoming president of the Interdenominational Ministerial Alliance, replacing the Rev. Mr. Macklin, who completed two terms as the organization’s leader.

The theme, “The Steps of a Good Man,” reflects Pastor Macklin’s commitment to the church and community. He serves as the co-convener of the Martin Luther King Celebration Planning Committee and chairman of ACTION’s Clergy Caucus. He is a member of Youngstown Police Department Chaplain Corps.

Concert series

COLUMBIANA — Zion Hill Church of the Brethren, 14550 New Buffalo Road, will present the third concert in its five-part series at 6 p.m. Sunday when The Oneys, national recording artists, perform.

Church anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN — St. James African Methodist Episcopal Church will mark its 67th anniversary during a celebration at 4 p.m. Sunday at Reed’s Chapel A.M.E. Church, 1939 Jacobs Road. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Georgina Thornton of St. Paul A.M.E. Church in Cleveland.

Event for youth

FARRELL, Pa. — The Youth Movement Council will conduct the event, “Speak Unto the Children,” next weekend at Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, 1825 Roemer Blvd. A youth power night is planned at 7 p.m. Friday with speaker Minister Leon M. Harrison Sr. and a Gospel explosion at 6 p.m. July 25. Dancers and musicians will perform at events.

Redeemed Life Ministries

YOUNGSTOWN — Redeemed Life Ministries, led by Pastor Sylvia Beard, has a Bible study from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesdays at First Presbyterian Church, 201 Wick Ave.

The ministries was dedicated May 30 during a ceremony at Johnny’s Restaurant in Boardman.

Minister Rosa Vega-Harris read Scripture. Regina Robinson led the praise and worship that included a flute solo by Bianca Robinson. Jacqueline Rogenski, secretary, gave announcements. Program participants were Christopher Beard, Brittany Robinson, the Rev. Richard and Anne Holland and Minister Marie Seaborne. Spiritual mentors are the Rev. Reginald and Dolores Johnson of Carlisle, Pa., and the Revs. Bessie Johnson and Gloria Williams of St. Croix, Virgin Islands. Pastor Andrew Monturo of Greater Faith Family Worship Center of Industry, Pa., spoke.

Evening service

HERMITAGE, Pa. — Georgian Banvo will minister at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at Living Word Church, 1109 E. State St.

He and his wife, Winnie, have been missionary evangelists since 1979.

He was the leader of Silverwind, a contemporary Christian band, in the 1980s.

Appointment made

YOUNGSTOWN — Bishop George V. Murry has appointed the Rev. Kevin Peters as associate pastor at St. Christine Church, 3165 S. Schenley Ave., effective Wednesday.

Father Peters was ordained June 9, 1990, after seminary studies at Mount St. Mary Seminary in Cincinnati. He previously served as associate pastor at St. Joan of Arc Church in Canton and St. Paul Church in North Canton; and was pastor at Mother of Sorrows Church in Ashtabula. He also served for two years as a Navy Chaplain. His most recent assignment was associate pastor at St. Nicholas Church in Struthers.

Father Peters also served as an Advocate for the Diocesan Tribunal; Chaplain for the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Diocesan Priests’ Council.

Ministry trips

LEETONIA — Jesus “The Key” Ministry has planned trips Aug. 11-12 to the Creation Musuem in Cincinnati and Cincinnati Christian University; Sept. 15 to the Lucille Ball Museum, Lake Chautauqua and wineries; and Oct. 5-6, Washington D.C.
