Transit authorities divvy up federal money

YOUNGSTOWN — Both the board of Western Reserve Transit Authority and Sharon City Council approved a letter of agreement pertaining to the distribution of Federal Transit Administration funding.

Under the agreement, which still must be approved by Niles officials, WRTA will get $2.52 million, Shenango Valley Shuttle Service will get $504,056 and Niles-Trumbull County Transit will receive $470,000.

Mercer County Regional Council of Governments operates the Shenango service but Sharon is designated as recipient of the federal funds so its council must approve the split.

The total $3.4 million in FTA money is used for public transit systems.
