Diwali, or “Festival of Lights” is a five-day festival celebrated by Hindus in October or November that symbolizes the victory or good over evil.

The month of July is named after the Roman ruler Julius Caesar.

Luca, a German shepherd puppy, arrived at Peter Ionno’s house at 10 weeks of age. A tiny, playful ball of fur, Luca quickly grew into a large, regal dog. Ionno loved Luca and even though it was painful, he had to give the dog back. Luca is training to be a guide dog through Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation in Bloomfield, Conn. The Ionno family is a foster family who has prepared five German Shepherds for advanced training. Ionno, 19, of Bloomfield, Conn., said the experience has changed his life. He is now taking online courses to become a veterinary technician and said he wants to train and work with animals.
