Canfield woman receives prestigious OFRW award

CANFIELD — Lotis Cooper of Canfield was one of 29 women to receive an Ohio Federation of Republican Women’s Tribute to Women Award during a federation meeting June 28 at Worthington Hills Country Club in Columbus.
The award was established in 1980 and honors club members who have given their time and talent to their communities.
The keynote speaker, Ohio Supreme Court Justice Judith Lanzinger, applauded the recipients for their leadership capabilities, personal values and community contributions. Also paying tribute to the honorees were Rob Portman, a senatorial candidate, and Shirley Sadler, president of the National Federation of Republican Women.
Born and raised in Nebraska, Cooper was active in Republican clubs in several states before moving to Ohio in 1993. Since joining the Canfield Republican Women’s Club she has held various committee and board posts and served as president in 1997-1998. She earned the 2007 OFRW state membership award for her efforts to recruit members.
Cooper has been an active volunteer in Mahoning County political campaigns, worked at the GOP tent at the Canfield Fair, manned telephone call centers and been a key contributor to local, state and national campaigns.
Promoting community awareness of the performing arts is a priority for Cooper and her husband, Frank, They have helped to sponsor many local events, such as the Youngstown Symphony, opera guilds and Stambaugh Pillars. They have three children and eight grandchildren.
