High court: Improve divorce-court efficiency
CLEVELAND (AP) — The Ohio Supreme Court wants changes in the divorce court in Cleveland to improve efficiency.
The justices made more than 90 recommendations Tuesday and said 28 were urgent.
The concerns include the appointment by divorce judges of outside attorneys to handle cases. The high court says such appointments must be done rarely and without favoritism.
The state Supreme Court reviewed the operations of the Cuyahoga County Domestic Relations Court after getting complaints that some cases took years and five-figure fees to resolve.
Divorce court Administrative Judge Timothy Flanagan says many of the problems raised by the justices have been resolved. He says 2008 statistics show the court had a good record of clearing cases.
