Youngstown Babe Ruth stars win
MOUNT VERNON — The Youngstown Babe Ruth 13-year-old all-stars defeated Zanesville, 15-5, on Tuesday to advance to the state tournament championship game.
Kurt Kuszmaul had two doubles and a single, and drove in three runs for Youngstown, which play today at 10:30 in the title game. Youngstown needs to win only one game for the championship in the double elimination tournament.
Tyler Spain added a triple, two singles and three stolen bases for Youngstown. Phil Di Ianni had a double and single and two RBIs; Colton Crissman singled twice, Edmond Pilolli singled twice with two RBIs, and Mike Kindinis had a double and two RBIs.
Youngstown led 6-5 in the top of the fifth inning with Zach Muchmaner caught a flyball in left field and doubled the Zanesville runner off first base.
In the bottom of the inning Youngstown scored nine runs on seven hits to end the game on the mercy rule.
