Power restored to Five Points area
POLAND — A truck turning in a church parking lot knocked down power lines, cutting electrical service to 878 Poland and Springfield township customers.
The incident caused Poland, Springfield and Beaver police and fire personnel to reroute traffic at the Five Points intersection all day Tuesday.
Poland Township police said a tractor-trailer pulled off Western Reserve Road shortly after 9 a.m. into the New Life Church parking lot at the intersection with North Lima Road. The truck struck and pulled down power lines as it tried to exit the lot onto North Lima Road, police said.
The wires pinned the truck and blocked both Western Reserve and North Lima roads, police said.
No one was hurt, and Paul Harkey, Ohio Edison Mahoning County area manager, said that by early Tuesday afternoon, power had been restored to about half of the customers. Crews had to work on wiring underground to fix the problem, and all power was restored shortly before 8 p.m.
Police said Western Reserve reopened to traffic around 8:30 p.m., and North Lima Road was to reopen about an hour later.
