Temporary closures during road work

Temporary closures during road work

BOARDMAN — Starting July 27, driveways to the Charter One Bank and the Park Diner in the township will be closed while the Ohio Department of Transportation installs a concrete barrier-wall. Access is available to the Charter One bank via South Avenue and to the Park Diner via South Avenue and U.S. Route 224.

Until further notice, 224 from Boardman Park Drive to just west of South has two lanes open in each direction with an additional shared left turn lane. The south side of 224 from the Shops of Boardman Park West to Kmart will have intermittent driveway closures while road reconstruction work occurs. During any driveway closure, access will be maintained via the adjacent driveway.

This work is part of a $5.2 million project to widen 224 through the addition of right-turn lanes from Boardman Park Drive to just west of South Avenue. The project also includes the addition of dual left-turn lanes from Route 224 to South and improvements to 15 traffic signals from Parkside Drive to Tiffany Boulevard. The entire project is scheduled to be complete by late October.

Case of toddler slaying

CANTON (AP) — A grand jury will hear the case against two men charged with fatally shooting a 2-year-old girl during a home invasion in Northeast Ohio.

Preliminary hearings took place Monday in Canton Municipal Court for 21-year-old William Ferguson and 20-year-old Maki Ragland, alleged to be the triggerman, both of Canton.

Police say the men entered the girl’s home nine days ago and demanded money. Harmoney Sankey was killed and her grandfather was shot in the leg.

Judge Mary Falvey ruled there was probable cause to believe crimes were committed and sent the cases to the Stark County grand jury to consider indictments. Both men are charged with aggravated robbery and aggravated murder.
