Cali E. Gialousis awarded ‘Miss Ohio Cover Girl’ title

YOUNGSTOWN — Cali Elizabeth Gialousis, a daughter of George and Lynn Gialousis of Castle Court, was crowned Miss Ohio Cover Girl for 2009-2010 at the annual National American Miss Pageant in Columbus, where she won first place in the 13-15 year old category.

In addition to winning the title, Cali was first runner-up in the Academic Achievement category, was named Ohio State Ambassador for National American Miss and received the Spirit of America Award.

She will compete for the national title in November in Anaheim, Calif., for the second time.

Cali recently graduated from St. Christine School in Youngstown, where she was consistently on the high honor roll as a straight-A student. She received a principal’s scholarship toward her secondary education at Ursuline High School, where she is enrolled in the algebra and English honors programs, and will be a majorette with the marching band.

As a fourth grader, Cali represented Youngstown City Schools at the Global Destination Imagination Challenge in Knoxville, Tenn. She was a member of Challenge 24 team, a local Academic Challenge participant, took part in a geography bee and won a superior rating for her project at the state science fair.

She was a member of the ethnic dance group at Archangel Michael Greek Orthodox Church and was involved in softball, volleyball and karate.
