Campbell police probe fatal crash

staff report

CAMPBELL — Sgt. John Rusnak said the names of the victims in a traffic accident about 12:30 p.m. Saturday that resulted in one fatality, a 52-year-old front-seat passenger, will be released early this afternoon.

Rusnak gave this account:

A car traveling westbound at a high rate of speed on Robinson Road clipped the rear end of a vehicle stopped at the stop sign at Robinson and 12th Street, then wrecked into the Ultimate Club building, 56 Robinson Road, located at Robinson and 10th streets.

Witnesses said the car rolled at least once before it struck the building sideways. Part of the building collapsed on the vehicle.

The occupants, including the 37-year-old driver and 24-year-old back-seat passenger, were trapped in the car and had to be cut out with the Jaws of Life. The victims were not wearing seat belts.

Campbell, Struthers and Coitsville fire departments responded to the scene.

Police continue to investigate but cited wet pavement as a probable contributing factor in the accident.

There were no injuries in the car that was hit from behind.
