‘The Packards’ lecture
WARREN — Wendell Lauth, a Trumbull County historian, will present “The Packards: Visionary Leaders in Warren Industry” at 2 p.m. next Monday at Warren-Trumbull County Public Library, 444 Mahoning Ave.
Lauth will talk about the Packard family and its contributions to the business, industrial and cultural life of the area. The lecture will explore the role of the Packard family, and especially William and James Packard, in leading Warren’s development as an innovative manufacturing, automotive and electrical industrial center.
The Packard family legacy includes W.D. Packard Music Hall, Packard Park, the Warren Library and more.

Lauth’s lecture is a prelude to the annual Packard Car Show, which will be July 20-26.
African-culture event
YOUNGSTOWN — Marcus Garvey Association presents the Afrikan Cultural Weekend Fest on Aug. 8 at Mill Creek Community Center, 496 Glenwood Ave.
The community is invited to celebrate black Americans’ heritage with a parade beginning at 10 a.m. After the parade, the fest will run until 7 p.m. featuring arts and crafts, food, music, dance and drill teams.
Fundraising for the Frankie “Mr. Lucky” Halfacre Scholar-ship for a Youngstown State University telecommunications student with a “Jam Off” from area musicians and singers also is part of the event.All interested in performing should contact Slow Killer Joe or That Guy Eclipz at (330) 402-4990.
Car-club membership
CANFIELD — The Mahoning Valley Mustang Club invites all Ford Mustang enthusiasts to come to its annual membership drive. This year, it will be on Mustang night at the A&W on U.S. Route 224 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. July 24.
There is a $50 coupon discount on club merchandise for anyone who joins. There will be a DJ, other car vendors, 50/50 raffle and a basket raffle. The monthly meetings are at the Canfield Township building.

Car show in Austintown
AUSTINTOWN — Mahoning Valley Corvettes and Greenwood Chevrolet will sponsor a car show from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday at Greenwood Chevrolet, 4695 Mahoning Ave.
Registration begins at 9 a.m. The show is open to all cars. Entry fee is $10. If you are showing for National Council of Corvette Clubs points, the fee is $20. Proceeds benefit the Hospice House, Shelly Carlile and other local charities.
Trophies and prizes will be awarded for all classes, including Peoples Choice Award. Music will be by Keen Geen. Food and beverages will be available.
