Rondinelli wins Class B crown


STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo used a pair of five-run innings on Saturday to knock off three-time defending champion 1080 Media 11-1 to clinch the Class Big B Championship Series at Cene Park.

Winning pitcher Aaron McGhee allowed just three hits in six innings and struck out five as Rondinelli won the best-of-five series, 3-1.

Adam Shrodek had a pair of hits and drove home four runs while Jake Double and Jason Bagoly had two hits each for Rondinelli.

In the first inning, McGhee gave up a two-out double to Evan Campbell, followed by a run-scoring single to Anthony Raschilla. Then he retired the next 11 men in order.

In the Rondinelli second inning, Double led off with a triple and scored on a single by Shrodek to tie the game.

Four more unearned runs scored in the frame for Rondinelli’s 5-1 lead.

In the fifth, Shrodek drove home two more runs in the five-run rally. In the sixth, he hit a sacrifice fly to score Bagoly who had tripled for the game-ending run.

1080 Media started Paul Indrihovic, who had shut down Rondinelli in game one’s 11-0 victory, struggled. He allowed 10 runs (six earned) on eight hits and walked six in 41‚Ñ3 innings.

Class Little B

Five runs in the second inning propelled the Astro Falcons to a romp in the Class Little b championship game.

Astro added six runs in the third inning and in the 12-1 victory over Roth brothers in the fifth and deciding game of the series.

Tom DeLullo allowed just one run on seven hits with two strikeouts for the win. Sutton Whiting, Gerald Rohan and Ryan Gallagher had two hits each for Astro.

Rohan and Josh Gore drove home two runs each. Gore and Gallagher doubled.

Dan Mioni had a pair of hits for Roth and suffered the loss on the mound. Mioni and Kyle Richeal doubled.

AA League

YOUNGSTOWN — Eric Pirtz doubled and scored twice as Youngstown Metros defeated Roth Brothers 8-3 in Class AA at Pemberton. Mike Popio had two hits and scored twice while Mike Hoelzel tripled and Dane Dobson doubled.

For Roth, Sean Clayton and Keith Jackson each had two hits and scored a run.

In the Metros’ 10-6 win over Penn Ohio, Dave Leon’s three hits included two doubles as he scored three times. Dobson’s two hits included a triple and he scored twice while Popio had two hits and two runs. Matt Durkin’s three hits included a triple.

For Penn Ohio, Willie Sly scored two runs while Jason Martin tripled and scored.
