Photo contest set for dying cities
STAFF REPORT
YOUNGSTOWN — Have you taken a photo that shows why Youngstown is a great place to live and/or work?
If so, the organizers of an event designed to focus on the positives of the 10 cities in the United States listed last year by Forbes magazine as the fastest-dying ones are interested in displaying them.
The Ten Living Cities Symposium & Art Festival is Aug. 7-9 in Dayton. Public officials, citizen activists, artists and academics from the cities will attend the event to discuss what’s great about their cities and the most innovative community revitalization projects taking place there.
The 10 cities on the list are Youngstown, Canton, Dayton and Cleveland in Ohio; Buffalo, N.Y.; Charleston, W.Va.; Scranton, Pa.; Springfield, Mass.; and Detroit and Flint in Michigan.
The best 10 photos from each city will be displayed during the festival.
The contest is open to photographers age 18 and older. Each photographer can enter up to three entries. Photos must have been taken between Aug. 5, 2008, and July 20. July 20 is the deadline to enter the contest.
To enter, photos must be submitted through www.tenlivingcities.org/photos — the symposium’s Web site.
