Man charged in wife’s death seeks bail
SOMERSET, Pa. (AP) — Defense attorneys are seeking bail for a 75-year-old western Pennsylvania man accused of killing the 73-year-old woman he had married just a few weeks earlier.
William McTonic, of Jerome, has pleaded innocent to criminal homicide in the death of Ruth Ann Henderson McTonic.
The district attorney’s office says it will seek a life sentence if McTonic is convicted, so denying bail is warranted.
But defense attorney Joe Policicchio says prosecutors have not connected his client to the shooting.
Prosecutors say the woman asked McTonic to move out of her home four days after the wedding and said she wanted a divorce, and she was found dead about two weeks later. They also say McTonic told someone else that his wife was dead two hours before her daughter found the body April 3.
