Festival will honor Warren-born rocker
WARREN — David Grohl, frontman for the Grammy-winning rock band Foo Fighters and a former member of the influential band Nirvana, will be honored by the city in which he was born: Warren.
Main Street Warren will host Music is Art, a weeklong music festival on Courthouse Square, downtown, July 26-Aug. 1, to pay tribute to Grohl.
At the time of his birth and during the first couple of years of his life, Grohl’s parents lived in a home on Perkinswood Avenue on Warren’s east side. Grohl still has family members that reside in the greater Warren area.
The highlight of the festival will be the dedication of the newly named David Grohl Alley at the finale of the festival at 5:45 p.m. Aug. 1. Grohl has been invited to attend the dedication, but it is not yet confirmed if he can attend, said Jennifer Campbell of Main Street Warren.
The free festival will feature a different genre of music each day, including gospel, jazz, country, blues and rock, and more than 200 local artists. For a complete schedule, go to mainstreetwarren.org or call Campbell at (330) 219.9819.
Main Street Warren and Trumbull Art Gallery are painting David Grohl Alley, which is between the downtown parking deck and buildings that face East Market Street, to reflect the festival theme. Murals will be hung in the alley to pay tribute to Grohl.
