Here are this year’s inductees for the East High Hall of Fame:
Darnell Bracy
football
Class of 1992
He was a three-year letter winner as a quarterback at East and was named to the All-City team three consecutive years including two first team selections. He also was honored with honorable mention for three years on the All-Northeastern Ohio team. He also was a four-year letter winner in basketball.
James Bryant
Football
Class of 1980
Coached by Gus Hilwvocy, he was selected as a 1979 all-City running back. His quickness was evident as a member of the 1980 City championship track team, coached by Dennis Malaska. James ran the 100, 200 and the 4x100 relay. He also was the lead-off runner on the record-breaking state championship 4x1600 relay team. He also played basketball.
Lawrence Burton
Football
Class of 1971
He played football and baseball at East, coached by Gus Hlebovy and Chipy Flauto. An accomplished student athlete, he was honored for his leadership by being named team captain in both sports, and academically was a member of the National Honor Society. Donald Cheffo
Baseball
Class of 1955
He was an all round athlete at East where he was an active player in baseball, football and basketball, earning eight letters. He was an excellent pitcher in baseball and a big contributor to the successful 1954 season which culminated in winning the district Tournament and placing second in the state regional tournament.
James Congemi
Special Award
Class of 1957
He lettered three years as a running back under Coach Pete Lanzi and played on the undefeated 1955 team. He began boxing while still in high school and in 1958, he became the 158-pound Golden Gloves Champion. He then spent the next four years training Golden Gloves Boxers.
Shawn Cole
Basketball
Class of 1988
He was team captain and lettered three years as a member of the basketball team for Coach Jim Mullally. As an outstanding guard, he was a unanimous All-City first team selection, averaging 12.5 points and 6.1 assists per game during his senior year. He and was selected to play in the M.V.C.A. All-Star game and also named to the All-Northeast Ohio team.
Edward Cuprik
Football
Class of 1963
He started playing football in the eighth grade and played for four coaches; Joe Bernard, Pete Lanzi, Ed Gregorio, and Gus Hlebovy. He lettered three years as a center.
Corey L. Green
Football
Class of 1987
He played four years of football under Coach Herman Jackson and four years of basketball under Coach Claude Bentley.
Mark Greene
Football
Class of 1987
Selected for football, he also excelled at track and was on a team that qualified for state.
Edward Kinney
Special Award
Class of 1945
He is honored for a 41 years of coaching football, baseball and basketball at numerous high schools throughout Ohio.
Jeff Lampkin
Special Award
Class of 1980
A boxer, Lampkin won the national AAU 178-pound championship in 1980 then turned professional. He won his first 16 fights and finished 38-19-1.
Geoffrey Lewis (deceased)
Baseball
Class of 1961
He established a reputation as a dominating baseball pitcher in Pony League, high school and Class B competition.

During his senior year, he earned a selection to the 1973 All-City Basketball Team. Football
Victor Stokes
Class of 1982
He lettered three years as a tailback and was named to the All-City Team for his performance during his senior year.
George B. Thomas
Baseball
Class of 1989
He started and lettered four years in baseball for Coach Jim Stickel, and never missed a game, playing in the infield, catching or pitching.
John Womack
Football
Class of 1982
He played football for four years under coaches Gus Hlebovy and Herman Jackson. He was a consistent two-way performer at tackle during his senior year and was awarded an All-City selection.
