Nursing practice degree

Kimberly Hudy Serroka has received a doctorate in nursing practice degree from the Frances Payne Bolton School of Nursing, Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland.

Dr. Serroka received the 2009 Dean’s Legacy Award for her contribution to the development of House Bill 7052 “Kids with Healthy Hearts” proposed by U.S. Rep. Kathy McMorris Rogers.

She is an associate professor of nursing at Youngstown State University, was awarded Distinguished Professor in Teaching in 2008 and was a recipient of the Ohio Education Award for Excellence.

For more than 30 years, Serroka has devoted herself to nursing. She is a 1974 graduate of Ursuline High School and a graduate of Youngstown State University, where she received her associate and bachelor’s degrees in nursing. She earned her master’s degree in parent-child nursing in 1989 from Kent State University.

She worked for many years at Forum Health as a staff nurse and educator.

She is the daughter of the late John V. and Nancy Hudy, and was married to the late David Serroka. She has two children, Kristin Serroka Garesche of Arlington, Va., and Paul Serroka of Coitsville. She lives in Liberty.

Cleveland Marshall

Mary Jo Cichanski, a 2002 Canfield graduate, graduated from Cleveland Marshall College of Law, earning her juris doctorate degree.

She received her bachelor’s degree in English from John Carroll University, Cleveland, in 2006. While at John Carroll, she was a member of Chi Omega Sorority, serving as secretary, community service chairwoman and informal recruit chairwoman. Since graduating, she has served her sorority through the Cleveland West Side Alumni and by supporting her former chapter, Upsilon Mu, as assistant forms and records adviser in 2007.

While at Duquesne University of Law, where Cichanski spent her first year of law school, she was a member of Phi Alpha Delta Law Fraternity and Women’s Law Association. Since returning to Cleveland, she has become a member of Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association and the Ohio State Bar Association and has volunteered with the Legal Aid Society of Cleveland.

She will sit for the Ohio Bar Exam in Columbus this month. She has been a law clerk at the Cleveland law firm Sidoti and Sidoti, LPA, since June 2008.

Cichanski lives in Lakewood.

She is the daughter of Mark Sr. and Mariellen Cichanski of Boardman and granddaughter of Ruth Cichanski of Boardman and the late Raymond Cichanski, and Joseph and Mary Cirelli.
