Anniversary to be celebrated by the Atwoods

YOUNGSTOWN — Mr. and Mrs. Richard Atwood Jr., 470 Catalina Ave., observed the 50th anniversary of their wedding on July 11.

The former Hilda Thompson and Mr. Atwood were married on that date in 1959 at the home of the bride’s parents.

Mrs. Atwood retired in 1993 from Forum Health Northside Medical Center, where she was employed in the purchasing department. She is an associate minister at Calvary Ministries International.

Mr. Atwood was a corporal in the U.S.Army and was a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal Service until retiring in 1988. He is a member of St. Andrews AME Church, NAACP, AARP and the Knights of Pythian, and is the secretary at Oakhill Athletic Club.

The couple are the parents of Vincent Wayne Atwood, Vincent Maurice Atwood and Leslie Faye Atwood, all of Youngstown. They have 11 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

A celebration of the anniversary is being planned by their daughter for a later date.
