Rondinelli wins 6-0 in B title series


STRUTHERS — Rondinelli Tuxedo scored four times in the first inning, added two more runs in the second and rode the right arm of D.J. Simoncic to a 6-0 victory over 1080 Media in the Class B League championship series at Cene Park on Friday.

Rondinelli leads the best-of-5 series 2-1, with Game 4 scheduled for today at 7 p.m.

Jaymee Shepard and Phil Lipari singled to start the contest with Drew Fitzpatrick driving home the first run with a double. After a balk made the score 2-0, a single by Ed Reese drove in the third run of the frame. The last run scored on a double play. Phil Lipari doubled home Zack Stein who had singled in the second and scored the final Rondinelli run on another balk.

Simoncic did not allow a hit until a two-out single by Vinny Nitolli in the fourth inning. He walked five, struck out five and hit two batters and allowed just five singles.

1080 had its chances but stranded 10 men on base and was 0 for 6 with runners in scoring position.

Lipari and Jake Double had two hits each for Rondinelli.

Little b

Kyle Richeal tossed a seven-hit complete game as Roth Brothers defeated Astro Falcons 6-1 to even their Class little b Championship Series at two wins each.

The deciding game is today at 7 p.m.

Richeal had five strikeouts and walked just one while Danny Waktins had three hits with a pair of RBIs, and Dan Mioni and Anthony Ross two hits each for Roth Brothers.

Gerrard Rohan had two hits for the Falcons and drove home their only run of the game.

Youngstown AA

YOUNGSTOWN — Jae Leeworthy had two hits to lead Youngstown Metros over Penn-Ohio 4-0 at Pemberton-Donnell Park.

Ross Revella, Mike Hoelzel, Dom Sylvestri and Brian Szabo all hit doubles for the Metros.

Pitcher Bob Switka tossed a complete-game two hitter, striking out seven.

Rob Sullivan and Dave DeJulio had Penn-Ohio’s hits.

Yo. Metros 5, Penn-Ohio 2

YOUNGSTOWN — Leeworthy hit a solo homer and singled to lead Metros at Oakland Field. Dane Dobson added a double and single, and Chester Kirkwood hit a pair of singles. Dave Leon had two RBIs.

Scott McDermott homered for Penn-Ohio, while Sullivan and Mike Evans hit singles.

Cory Johnson was the winning pitcher and Sylvestri earned the save.

Tri-State Collegiate

BEREA — J.L. Thomas defeated Youngstown Metros 7-2 in a game at Baldwin-Wallace College.

Matt Durkin had three hits for Metros, while Joe Iacobucci had a pair of doubles. Chester Kirkwood hit a double and single, and Brian Szabo singled twice.

Shane Spies and John Ulanski had three hits each for J.L. Thomas, and T.J. Murphy, Matt Delewski and Matt Desico all had two RBIs.

Warren AA

WARREN — Leon’s Brewers defeated P.I.&I Express 5-2 as Richard Benchia pitched all seven innings for the Brewers and struck out eight.

Jarrett Partridge had a second inning grand slam.
