Ribbon-cutting scheduled

NILES — Ghossain’s 422 Gourmet Mediterranean Foods will have a ceremonial ribbon-cutting at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday to mark the opening of the new location on Youngstown-Warren Road at the northwest corner of U.S. Route 422 and state Route 46. Ghossain’s has been in business in the Youngstown area for 40 years.

The family business has been shipping bread and other baked goods to all 50 states since its beginning in the Uptown area of Youngstown. Ghossain’s flatbread was cited by Martha Stewart in her book “Quick Cook Menus.” In one of her recipes, she states, “I buy a brand called Mid East Bread, which is made by the Ghossain family in Youngstown: It is low-calorie, very flavorful and freezes well.”

The Niles retail store will have fresh Mediterranean food daily. The breads include eight flavors of flatbread, pita bread and pastries. Also, hummus, stuffed grapeleaves, tabouli and all other deli items will be made daily. Lunch and dinner specials will be available every day. A wide variety of imported foods, spices, nuts and other grocery items also are available.

ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — For months, Atlantic City has been dreading the opening of a new casino in Bethlehem, Pa., a short drive from some of its best markets in northern New Jersey and New York. On Friday, the nation’s second-largest gambling market got its first look at the impact of the Sands Bethlehem. For June, the first full month that the Sands was open, revenue at Atlantic City’s casinos fell 13.6 percent from a year ago.
