STAFF REPORT
Ohio Senate Minority Leader Capri Cafaro was appointed to the Legislature’s Joint Select Committee on the Impact of the Changing Automobile Industry in Ohio.
The General Assembly recently created the committee to study the automobile industry as it relates to manufacturers, suppliers, dealers and consumers.
“It is critically important that as a state and as a Legislature, we take a very close look at how we can best assess and design laws to make sure we are creating the best climate for auto manufacturers, dealers and suppliers,” said Cafaro, of Liberty, D-32nd.
The committee consists of three members of the Senate appointed by its president, Sen. Bill Harris, a Republican from Ashland, and three members of the Ohio House selected by its speaker, Rep. Armond Budish, a Democrat from Beachwood.
The committee’s study will include automobile franchise laws, consumer protection issues, and warranties. Recommendations will be made by the committee concerning Ohio law regulating and supporting the automobile industry. The committee will submit its report to Gov. Ted Strickland no later than Sept. 30.
Cafaro’s district consists of Trumbull and Ashtabula counties. The Lordstown General Motors complex is in her district.
