Public hearing is set in Poland

STAFF REPORT

POLAND — A public hearing on a request that would allow apartments on East McKinley Way will be at 6 p.m. July 21 at village hall.

A village council caucus will follow at 7 p.m. with the regular council meeting at 7:30. Council President Joseph Mazur said he expects the panel to vote on the request at the regular meeting.

Last month, the village planning commission voted 4-0, with one member abstaining, to recommend denial of the request by Singer Homes of Poland to change the zoning on a 2.5-acre parcel at 126 E. McKinley Way to allow four six-plex apartment buildings.

The request to change the zoning from Residential 1, which allows single-family homes, to Residential 2, to permit apartments, must be addressed by council. To go against the planning commission’s recommendation, five of the six council members must vote in support of the zone change.

To follow the recommendation, only a simple majority vote of council is required.

The request has been met with opposition from many of the residents who live nearby.
