Ex-booster club member in Ohio charged in theft

MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (AP) — Police say a former member of an Ohio high school’s music booster club has been charged with taking about $36,000 from the club over the past two years.

Middletown police say 51-year-old Stephen Santos has been charged with theft and tampering with records. His case is before a grand jury.

Police say a club audit last month showed at least $17,000 to $20,000 missing from its bank account. Police say Santos told them he wrote about $36,000 in checks to himself from the account because he did not have a job and had lost his home.

The club has fundraisers and sells concessions at Middletown High School athletic events.
