Police investigate reports of explosions

AUSTINTOWN — Two township residents said boys were throwing homemade explosives in their neighborhood.
A resident said he heard three explosions outside his Sandalwood Lane home just before 1 a.m. Tuesday.
He said he went outside and saw two juvenile males running west toward Lynn Kirk Elementary and saw another throw a “glowing object” before running in the same direction.
The resident said he called police after he saw three more explosions.
When police arrived, they searched the man’s front yard and found three exploded two-liter pop bottles containing clear drain cleaner and shards of burned foil.
At about the same time, police received another call from a resident on Whitebeech Lane reporting an explosion outside his home.
He told police he saw eight to 10 young men run out of a home on Whitebeech and head toward Sandalwood.
He said he heard three more explosions and saw them run back into the Whitebeech residence.
Officers went to the home but were unable to make contact with anyone inside, making no arrests.
