Man faces charge in third case of scamming elderly
BOARDMAN — A man already in the Mahoning County jail accused of scamming elderly township residents out of money has been charged with the same crime in another incident.
Steven E. Kuhn Jr., 41, whose last known address was on Rockdale Avenue, was charged with theft from an elderly person in a March 11 incident involving a 75-year-old Nellbert Lane man.
The victim told police he was at home about 9:30 p.m. when a man knocked on the door. The man said his wife was stuck on the turnpike and needed money for gas.
The victim invited the man into his home and gave him $50. The man said he would return the following day to repay the money, but he didn’t.
Kuhn was arrested in April on two counts of the same offense. Those incidents involved a 74-year-old on Woodrow Avenue March 18 and a 73-year-old Beechwood Avenue man March 20. Kuhn is accused of knocking on the victims’ doors, saying he needed money to help his wife who was stuck near Lorain.
In April, Kuhn pleaded guilty to two counts of theft, a reduced charge. He was sentenced to three months in jail and two years probation, court records show.
