Man arrested on home-burglary charge
Staff Report
BOARDMAN — A Trotter Drive man was in the Mahoning County jail, accused of burglary of a Suzylynn Drive home.
Jeremy C. Bell, 23, was charged with burglary and possession of criminal tools, both felonies, and misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest, theft and obstructing official business.
Police were called about 4:15 a.m. Monday to Suzylynn Drive on a burglary report.
An officer spotted a dome light on inside a vehicle on a nearby street, turned a spotlight on the vehicle and saw a man, later identified as Bell, inside.
Bell got out of the car, crawled on the ground and ran toward a backyard on Tracy. The officer followed, and Bell was stopped by a fence but refused the officer’s commands to go to the ground and to show his hands. The officer used a Taser on Bell.
The officer found a flashlight and a pair of gloves, resulting in the charge of possession of criminal tools.
Police said Bell also had a bag of Doritos that he had taken from the Tracy Drive vehicle, so he was charged with theft.
The victim of the Suzylynn Drive burglary said he received a call from his 11-year-old son from a room on the first floor of the house.
The boy told his father that someone opened the garage door, then the door to the house and was standing in the home’s hallway.
When the man saw the boy, he fled, closing the garage door behind him.
The boy identified Bell as the man who entered the home.
