Former Niles resident captures poetry prize


TORONTO — A.F. Moritz’s “The Sentinel” was awarded the Griffin Poetry Prize, the world’s largest and most prestigious award for a single volume of English-language poetry.

The judges considered 485 books from 34 countries before presenting the $50,000 award to Moritz during a ceremony in June at The Stone Distillery.

A native of Niles, Moritz has authored 14 books of poetry and is a professor at the University of Toronto.
