4 agencies get grants
YOUNGSTOWN — Eastgate Regional Council of Governments announced that four agencies in Mahoning and Trumbull counties have received federal grant funding to buy vehicles.
Antonine Sisters Adult Day Care, Mahoning County Adult Services Company, under the Mahoning County Board of Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities, Lake Vista of Cortland and Trumbull County Action Program received the money through the fiscal year 2009 Specialized Transportation Grant Program.
The program provides funds to assist organizations in providing transportation services to meet the special needs of elderly people and those with disabilities.
The capital-grant funds can be used to buy vehicles, mobility-management services and other transportation-related equipment.
The grants pay for 80 percent of the items with the agencies responsible for 20 percent.
Injuries listed as serious
HERMITAGE, Pa. — A man who was injured in a fireworks accident Saturday night was in serious condition at a Pittsburgh hospital late Tuesday.
Vincent Fustos, 45, of Anne Lane, was in the basement of his house around 10:30 p.m. making a homemade firework device, said Hermitage fire marshal Bob Goeltz.
There was an explosion, and family members who were outside went in and helped Fustos get out, police said. Fustos was taken by helicopter to UPMC Mercy Hospital. The house sustained fire damage in the basement and smoke damage on the first and second floors, Goeltz said.
Firefighters found the family’s dog unconscious in the basement and revived the animal with CPR and oxygen, he said.
