JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — A four-run fifth inning propelled the Jamestown Jammers to Sunday’s 7-6 victory over the Mahoning Valley Scrappers in Class A New York-Penn League action.

The Scrappers’ only lead came in the top of the first inning after Jordan Henry drew a lead-off walk against winning pitcher Curtis Peterson (1-2). Lurvin Basabe singled and he and Henry advanced on a throwing error.

Henry scored on Jason Smit’s sacrifice fly to center field, but Erik Kanaby fired to third baseman Michael Pasek to erase Basabe.

The Jammers took the lead in the third inning after Carlos Paulino led off with a double against losing pitcher Clayton Cook (0-1). Jose Torres singled to score Paulino and moved to second on an error. After a sacrifice bunt put Torres on third base, he scored when Sequoyah Stonecipher hit into a forceout.

Torres’ lead-off single started the Jammers’ fifth inning. After Cook walked Kamaby and Pasek to load the bases, he was replaced by Tyler Sturdevant.

Stonecipher’s sacrifice fly scored Torres for a 3-0 lead. Richard Orton connected for a three-run homer to double the lead.

Trailing 7-1 in the seventh inning, the Scrappers (10-7) made the game interesting by scoring twice and adding three runs in their next at-bat.

After Gregory Folgia walked to open the seventh inning, Tim Palincsar singled. They scored after Rafael Vera singled and the Jammers (6-11) made an error.

In the eighth inning, Chun-Hsui Chen and Kyle Bellows walked and advanced on a wild pitch. Ben Carlson’s sacrifice fly scored Chen to reduce the Jammers’ advantage to 7-4.

Another wild pitch scored Bellows. Three more wild pitches after Palincsar singled brought home the Scrappers’ sixth run.

The Scrappers remain atop the Pinckney Division standings. Tonight at 7:05 p.m., the Scrappers conclude their brief road trip against the Jammers then return home to open a three-game set on Tuesday against the Auburn Doubledays (7-9).
