Ohio man delays bike ride through 48 states

TIPP CITY, Ohio (AP) — A recent University of Cincinnati graduate has postponed a charity bike ride that he hopes will take him through 48 states in 48 days.

Phil Nagle wants to raise $48,000 for lymphoma and leukemia research and treatment with a quick and grueling bicycle trip covering 8,000 miles. He had planned to set out Monday from his hometown of Tipp City in western Ohio.

But Nagle says on his Web site that he and his team decided to delay the ride for two weeks to give themselves more time to find contributions. His new start date is July 20.

The Web site’s donation page shows Nagle has raised just 5 percent of his goal amount.

He has said the ride was partly inspired by an uncle he never had a chance to meet, who died of leukemia at the age of 16.
