Canfield appoints Charles Bowman of Kent as city manager
CANFIELD — The city’s two-year-long search for a new city manager has ended.
Charles Bowman, 50, of Kent, was appointed by city council Monday in a 4-1 vote to take over for current city Manager Charles Tieche. Bowman, now city manager in Greenfield, is to begin his two-year contract in Canfield Sept. 8.
Greenfield is located in the far northeast corner of Highland County near the Ross and Fayette County lines.
Council member Daniel Frazzini voted against the appointment. Because Tieche will stay on for a period of time after Bowman takes office, the city will be paying two people to do the same job. Frazzini said this isn’t viable because of the poor economy.
Council President Andrew Skrobola said the road to appointing Bowman was a long one, and it was something that needed to be done.
“He has a wealth of good experience, which is something we need here,” Skrobola said. “It’s taken a long time to find a qualified person to take this job.”
Skrobola said Bowman’s resume was impressive and he will do well at his new post. He’s set to make $72,000 per year through 2011.
