SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. — The Awesome Spirit of Wildlife, a youth wildlife-conservation group, will host a reptile and amphibian presentation at 2 p.m. July 12 at the Jennings Environmental Education Center.
The program will showcase reptiles and amphibians both native and exotic. Live animals will be featured, and interaction is encouraged.
Admission is $5 for attendees 15 and older; $3 for children age 7 to 14; and free for those 6 and younger. Free refreshments will be served.
All the proceeds will go to furthering TASOW’s mission of wildlife conservation through education and rehabilitation.

Temporary closing
AUSTINTOWN — The Mahoning County engineer’s office will close Turner Road between Gibson and Kirk roads to replace a culvert.
Traffic will be detoured along Gibson, Lipkey and Kirk roads. Work begins Monday and is to be completed July 13.
Aggravated menacing
YOUNGSTOWN — A city man is accused of threatening a crowd of about 50 people near a Market Street tavern early Saturday.
City police charged Spencer M. Washington, 33, of Lauderdale Avenue, with carrying a concealed weapon, being a felon in possession of a firearm and aggravated menacing.
Washington was arrested around 2 a.m. after bystanders called police, saying a man had emerged from Club Dejavu, 2810 Market Street, pulled a gun, pointed it at a crowd of people and yelled at them before walking away.
Police searched for the man on Hylda Avenue, locating him near Hillman Avenue, where he was seen throwing something toward trees. Washington was arrested there and placed in the Mahoning County jail.
Youngstown canine officer Ninja located a warm, dry pistol in the area where officers saw Washington throw the item, police said.
Memorial run set
YOUNGSTOWN— The seventh annual Our Fallen Officers Memorial Run will rev up next Sunday in memory of Michael Hartzell.
Downtown’s Federal Plaza is the venue for the event, which will feature food, drinks and entertainment. The ride will take place rain or shine. Fees are $15 per rider and $10 per passenger. Registration will be from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Covelli Centre.
The opening ceremony begins at 11:10 a.m.; the last cycle will take off at 11:30 a.m.
The run is sponsored by the Blue Knights of Youngstown XXVII and Lodge 28, Fraternal Order of Police. A pre-registration form can be obtained at www.bkoh27.com.
Niles school board
NILES — The board of education will have a community meeting at 6 p.m. July 14 in the high school gym to share information about the new elementary school and the new high school building projects.
