Allman’s 4 RBIs lead Scrappers to romp
JAMESTOWN, N.Y. — John Allman drove in four runs to lead the Mahoning Valley Scrappers’ celebration of Independence Day with a 10-2 pounding of the Jamestown Jammers.
The win moves the Scrappers (10-6) into sole possession of first place in the Pinckney Division, a half of a game ahead of Batavia and one game ahead of theWilliamsport Crosscutters.
The Scrappers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as Jordan Henry walked while Lurvin Basabe and Jason Smit singled, and then all scored.
The Jammers scored both of their runs in the first inning. Both were unearned.
The Scrappers turned the game into a rout when they scored five times in the fourth inning for an 8-2 lead. Rafael Vera’s one-out double triggered the scoring outburst.
After Hendy and Basabe singled, Smit doubled while Allman, Ben Carlson and Kyle Smith singled.
Jose Urena (1-0) picked up the win by pitching the fifth through eighth innings, allowing no runs and striking out four.
The Scrappers and Jammers play today at 6:05 p.m.
