‘The King and I’ at Kent-Trumbull

CHAMPION — Kent State University-Trumbull Campus Summer Stock will present “The King and I” for a three-weekend run beginning Friday.

The musical by Rodgers and Hammerstein is directed by Tom Hitmar with musical direction by Frank McCauley. It includes the songs “Whistle A Happy Tune,” “Shall We Dance,” and “Getting to Know You.”

Performances are Friday through July 12, 17-19 and 24-26 in Kent Trumbull Theatre, 4314 Mahoning Ave. N.W.

Tickets are $12 for adults and $10 for students, seniors and children. Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m.; Sunday shows are at 3 p.m. Call (330) 675-8887 for more information.

Campbell City Fest will begin Thursday

CAMPBELL — Campbell City Fest begins Thursday and runs through July 12 at Roosevelt Park. The schedule is as follows:

Thursday: 6-8 p.m. Diva Entertainment, DJ and karaoke; 8-11 p.m., Following June Band.

Friday: 5:30 p.m., opening ceremony; 6:30 p.m., Little King and Queen contest; 8-11 p.m., Santa Fe Band.

Saturday: 12:30 p.m., parade from Campbell City Hall on Tenney Avenue north on 12th Street to Park Drive, to Neoka, to Edwards Lane and into Roosevelt Park; 3-5 p.m., Rachelle Joy; 5:30-7:30 p.m., Ronnie Rupert; 8-11 p.m., DJ Dr. Rock.

July 12: 2-4 p.m., Libby and the Tamburitzans; 4-6 p.m., Vince Camp “Serenata D’Italia”; 6-8 p.m., Conjunto Riquena Band; 8:30-10:30 p.m., Rocco Monaco Orchestra; 10:30 p.m., fireworks.

During the festival there will be Chinese auctions, games, crafts, raffles and American and ethnic foods.

Art exhibition, reception at Eastwood gallery

NILES — The Art Outreach Gallery in the Eastwood Mall is featuring artwork by Laura Brocker, a 2005 Canfield High School graduate and recent graduate of Taylor University in Indiana.

The exhibition, entitled “Refinement,” runs through Sept. 6. An artist reception will be at 1 p.m. July 12. Admission is free.

Hoyt offers workshop in drawing portraits

NEW CASTLE, Pa. — The Hoyt Institute of Fine Arts is offering a one-day workshop called “Introduction to Portraiture” from 5:30-7:30 p.m. July 14.

Instructor Richard DiGia will teach students the step-by-step formula of drawing the human face. No experience in drawing is required.

DiGia is an adjunct professor at Geneva College and has taught at Westminster College and the Butler Institute of American Art, in addition to the Hoyt Institute of Fine Art.

Beacon Broadcasting stations change formats

WARREN — Format changes at three Beacon Broadcasting radio stations went into effect Saturday, according to a press release from the company which owns and operates five radio stations in the Mahoning Valley and nearby Pennsylvania.

Freq107, which played Christian rock, has become Indie107.1, which offers positive Adult Contemporary music and music from independent artists. Sister station Freq1540-AM (WRTK) is now identified as AM1540, “Reaching the Kingdom.” AM1540 features Adult Contemporary Christian music and broadcasts from sunrise to sunset, and online at freq1540.com 24 hours.

WANR AM-1570 has become part of the Fox Sports Radio network, but will still broadcast high school sports events.
