Pa. lawmaker says laptop computer stolen from his car

OAKMONT, Pa. (AP) — A Democratic state lawmaker from Allegheny County says thieves stole a state-issued laptop computer from his car.

State Rep. Frank Dermody says the computer was stolen this weekend while his car was parked in his driveway in Oakmont. Dermody says thieves stole items from several cars in the borough a few miles east of Pittsburgh.

Dermody says he uses the laptop to e-mail constituents and other lawmakers, but says none of their confidential personal information is stored on the computer.

The theft was not publicized by borough police, but became known when a dispatcher broadcast an alert for Dermody’s laptop that could be heard on police scanners Wednesday.

Oakmont police Chief David DiSanti says the investigation is ongoing.
