Columbus man dies in construction scaffold collapse

DUBLIN, Ohio (AP) — Officials say one man died and two co-workers were hurt when scaffolding collapsed at an Ohio construction project.

Spokesman Michael Racey for the Columbus suburb of Dublin says Wilbert Johnson, 52, of Columbus was killed in the accident late Wednesday morning at the site of the new corporate headquarters for natural gas supplier IGS Energy.

Racey says exactly what happened to the scaffold isn’t clear, though something “gave way.” The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the death.

One of the injured was treated at a hospital, the other was admitted with injuries that were not life threatening. Racey says all three were masons laying brick on the building.
