Wharmby Sports rallies to defeat Dave Sugar, 6-5


STRUTHERS — Wharmby Sports scored four times in the bottom of the seventh to tie the game and then won it with an unearned run in the bottom of the ninth, rallying past Dave Sugar Excavating 6-5 in the first game of their first round Class B playoff series Tuesday at Cene Park.

Game two of the three-game series is 8 p.m. tonight.

Anthony Savko and Dom DeFelice had three hits each, while Jason Burkes, Evan Anzio, and Tony Koch added two each for Wharmby.

Savko tossed 22‚Ñ3 innings of one hit scoreless ball for the win.

Josh Foster went the first 61‚Ñ3 innings for Wharmby, allowing four earned runs with seven walks.

Jordan Izzo and Nick Benson had two hits each for Dave Sugar.

Marlo Cleckley went seven innings allowing five runs before Nick Crum relieved him and suffered the loss.

Wharmby tied the game on a two-run single by DeFelice, a sacrifice fly by Ben Bechtol, and a balk.

Both teams had their chances as Dave Sugar stranded 13 and Wharmby 14.

Astro Falcons 5, OTN Performance 4

Jared Turocy’s bases-loaded single in the bottom of the eighth inning drove home the game-winning run for the Astro Falcons in the first game of their playoff series.

Game two will be played at 6 p.m. tonight.

Turocy also pitched a complete game for the win, as he struck out 11. Shane Wagner had three hits, and Turocy and Tyler Royer added two hits each for the Astro Falcons.

OTN had tied the game with a four-run rally in the top of the seventh inning. A bases-loaded walk scored the first run, then a two-out, two-run single by Joe Sekula plated two more, cutting the lead to 4-3. OTN then executed a double steal with Sekula stealing second and Wade Daniels scoring the tying run when the throw went to second base.

Collin Bowser went the first seven innings for OTN, striking out five. He added two hits. Gary Yemma suffered the loss.

Late Monday Rondinelli 11, Youngstown Express 1

Ed Reese had an inside the park home run and also added a triple and three RBIs while Drew Fitzpatrick won his sixth game for Rondinelli.

Jason Bagoly and Jaymee Shepard added two hits each for Rondinelli (21-6), which is seeded second in the playoffs and has a first-round bye.

Anthony Mott had a pair of hits for the Express (6-21).

Action Physical Therapy 7, Livi Steel 3

Jordan Adkins went the distances for his first win for Action Physical Therapy (4-23).

Adkins (1-5) did not allow an earned run, striking out four.

Matt Corner had three hits, and Vince Falconi two for Action.

Losing pitcher Brandon Smith had six strikeouts and two hits for Livi Steel (5-22).
