Vigil for Dustin Huffman, 17, set for tonight in Reilly Stadium

SALEM — A vigil is planned for tonight at 8 in Reilly Stadium at Salem High School to remember Dustin Huffman, a senior who fell to his death Tuesday in Beaver Creek State Park.

Huffman, 17, of Edgewood Drive, was exploring the park during a break from his job with A-1 Tree Service when he and a friend came upon a cliff. Huffman fell 100 feet and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Funeral arrangements have not been finalized, but the family has had an outpouring of support from friends who gathered last night for a bonfire — Huffman’s favorite activity — at their Salem home. Dave Huffman, Dustin’s father, said close to 100 Salem High School students shared memories of his son last night.

Counselors will be available for grieving students from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday at the Salem High School Library.
