Ohio Lottery operator switch has some glitches

CLEVELAND (AP) — The Ohio Lottery says a few winning tickets were not recognized as the state switched to a new operator.

Marie Kilbane, lottery spokeswoman, said today the new system did not properly read some tickets from the system being replaced. She says the problems are being worked out.

To make the switch, online lottery games were unavailable from late Tuesday until 6 a.m. today.

The Ohio Lottery decided last year to change its operator to Athens, Greece-based Intralot S.A., the parent company of Intralot Inc., based near Atlanta.

That triggered a lawsuit from GTECH, a Providence, R.I.-based company that has been the Ohio Lottery’s vendor since 1985. The suit argued that Intralot had no experience operating a large state lottery.
